What Makes Balmuri Falls Special
Created by check dam construction across Cauvery river, Balmuri gets its name from Kannada words Bala (right) and Muri (turn) – where the river bends rightward. The 100-meter wide cascade drops just 6 feet, creating ankle-deep pools perfect for children and non-swimmers.
Edmuri Falls, 4 km downstream, represents the river’s left turn (Yeda means left). Both falls feature small Ganesha temples and serve as popular filming locations for Kannada movies including several Dr. Rajkumar classics.
How to Reach Balmuri and Edmuri Falls
From Mysore City: Take Mysore-KRS road. After 10 km, turn right at Belagola village (near cinema theater). Follow village road for 3 km to riverbank.
By KSRTC Bus: Board any KRS-bound bus (Rs.20) from Mysore city bus stand. Get down at Belagola and walk/take shared auto.
From Bangalore: Take Bangalore-Mysore highway. Turn right after Srirangapatna towards Ranganathittu. Balmuri signboards clearly marked.
